Popular solutions

Common lighting projects – from spotlights to façades

Lighting is invisible until it is wrong. A kitchen with shadows across the worktop. An LED bulb flickering on an old dimmer. A dark entrance where nobody can find the keyhole. Just as often it is about possibilities: recessed spotlights that lift a newly renovated room, warm light on the terrace, or façade lighting that makes the house feel safe and welcoming through the dark months. Outdoors, many also want the light to look after itself – dusk sensors or timers switch it on and off with no one having to remember.

Many jobs start with dimmer trouble. Older dimmers were built for incandescent bulbs, and when the lamps are swapped for LED you get flicker, buzzing or lights that will not dim low. The dimmer's minimum load is often the culprit – modern LEDs draw so little current that old dimmers simply cannot register them. The fix is an LED-rated dimmer, matched to the right lamps.

How a lighting project works

Good light is half planning, half execution – and our process reflects that. We take it in five steps.

Good to know before you book

Dimmer and lamp must match – that is the single most common cause of flicker. Outdoors, the enclosure rating decides: fittings in sheltered positions manage with a lower IP rating, while exposed positions and ground spots need higher. Outdoor connections and junction boxes must be made for outdoor use. In bathrooms, zone rules apply to lighting too, and if spotlights are to be recessed into an insulated ceiling, the fittings must be approved for it so heat can dissipate safely.

Think about the character of the light as well: warm white around 2700 K suits most homes, while work surfaces often benefit from somewhat cooler light. Fixed installation work – new light points, recessed spots, dimmers – may only be carried out by an authorised electrical installation company under Swedish rules; changing bulbs you naturally do yourself. Private individuals can often use the ROT deduction, worth 30 percent of the labour cost. Current conditions are published by Skatteverket.

Common questions about lighting

Why do my LED lights flicker on a dimmer?
Almost always because the dimmer and the lamp are mismatched. Older dimmers were designed for incandescent bulbs and often have a minimum load that modern LEDs never reach – the result is flicker, buzzing or lights that blink at low levels. The solution is an LED-rated dimmer matched with good-quality dimmable lamps. We replace the dimmer, test the lamps and adjust the levels until the light is stable through the whole dimming range.
Can you install downlights in an insulated ceiling?
Yes, but the fittings must be approved for installation in insulated ceilings, so the heat from the luminaire and driver can dissipate safely – the wrong fitting in an insulated ceiling is a fire risk. There also needs to be room for drivers and junction boxes, which must remain accessible. We help you choose downlights that suit your ceiling, place them for even light without shadows, and carry out the recessing and wiring to current regulations.
What IP rating does outdoor lighting need?
It depends on how exposed the position is. Fittings under a roof, such as on a sheltered terrace, manage with a lower enclosure rating, while façade lights that take rain and snow head-on need a higher one. Ground spots and lights in flowerbeds require the most sealed designs, since they face both water and dirt. We choose fittings to suit the position – and just as importantly, outdoor connections and junction boxes must be made for outdoor use.
What do I need for smart lighting at home?
Less than most people think. The simplest route is smart bulbs controlled by an app – they need no installation at all. If you want to control fixed lighting, such as spotlights or façade lights, ordinary switches are replaced with smart switches or dimmers, and that is fixed installation work for a certified electrician. It usually works fine with the existing wiring. We help you put together a setup where switches, apps and scenes work as one system rather than isolated islands.
Can I replace a ceiling light myself in Sweden?
Changing bulbs is always fine. Taking down and hanging a ceiling light on an existing lamp outlet can be permitted in dry rooms if you know what you are doing – always switch off the power first, and check the guidance from Elsäkerhetsverket. Everything beyond that, such as new light points, recessed spotlights or swapping a switch for a dimmer, is fixed installation work and must be done by an authorised electrical installation company. If you feel at all unsure: leave it and call us instead.
